Skylar Ramsey joined FPRA in January of this year after hearing great things about the organization through her contacts at PRSSA. Currently she is the Senior Secretary to the Chair of the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department at the University of Florida. In that role, she is the event coordinator for their biannual Career Development Workshop, an event where more than 600 students meet with representatives from around 20 companies to land jobs or internships. She also facilitates the biannual Industrial Advisory Board Meeting where professionals from companies such as Microsoft, Home Depot, IBM and Grooveshark gather to discuss recent trends in the computer science industry.
Ramsey earned her B.S. in Public Relations with a minor in Leadership from the University of Florida in 2013. She loves that public relations is all about building relationships and developing top-notch communications skills.
“In a field that is always changing, it’s crucial to be constantly surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals to stay ahead of the curve,” said Ramsey. “FPRA provides professional networking opportunities for someone new to the field, and it will be an invaluable tool as I reach my career goals.”
The hidden gems Gainesville offers like Paynes Prairie, downtown Micanopy and the Historic Haile Homestead are a few of her favorite things about the area. FPRA members might not know that Skylar plays the cello and hopes to play in an orchestra again. She has also studied abroad in Spain and Greece. Skylar hails from Bradenton, Fla., and enjoys traveling to the mountains of North Georgia with her family, as well as taking group fitness classes and hanging out with her cats, although she’s not a crazy cat lady quite yet.
