Congratulations to Allison Downey, APR, on achieving Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). The accreditation program aims to improve the practice of public relations by assessing competence in 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the profession. The examination is designed for public relations professionals with five to seven years of job experience and/or a bachelor’s degree in a communication field. Candidates who successfully complete the rigorous process, including presenting his/her portfolio to a readiness review panel of three peers and sitting for a computer-based examination, are granted the APR. Downey is the Marketing Communications Manager for Patient Education & Practice Marketing at Exactech, a surgeon-founded orthopedic implant manufacturer headquartered in Gainesville. She has a Master’s degree from the University of Florida in Mass Communications, specializing in health and science, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from UF and has been a member of the Gainesville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association since 2008.
