We live in an age of transparency, which means no company or organization is immune to the threat of a possible crisis.

On Feb. 17, the chapter heard from Chris Gent, APR, CPRC, who shared how you can become “Master of Your Disaster” at Paramount Grill. Chris is the head of strategic communications and public affairs at Georgia-Pacific.

“Every day, organizations run the risk of being affected,” Chris said. “An accident results in death or injury; a failed takeover causes the share price to plummet; a hurricane ravages a community; toxic food, medicines or drinks lead to mass hysteria.”

We can all prepare for the inevitable, Chris said. A few takeaways from the program:

  • Learn how to identify potential issues.
  • Learn valuable crisis communication tips.
  • Learn how to limit damage effectively by acting quickly and positively.
  • Learn how to leverage technology to listen, monitor and measure.
