Amy Douglas, APR, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the University of Florida Performing Arts (UFPA) serves as treasurer for the Board of Directors this year. She has been involved in FPRA for about five years, and started when she worked in Sarasota. Amy joined the Gainesville chapter in the fall of 2010 when she served on the chapter’s website redesign committee. The following year Amy joined the board as the Electronic Media Director. In 2012 she became treasurer and has held that position ever since.
As the director of marketing and communications public relations and social media are a huge part of her job. The UFPA continually reaches out to their current audience as well as new audiences. Part of Amy’s job is finding new audiences and reaching out to them with the core message of the UFPA. Social media has been a major component in that effort.
“Being an FPRA member has given me confidence in my abilities,” Amy said. “I also learn so much from my FPRA peers – they are my ‘go to’ source when I have an issue, challenge or problem to solve.” Amy loves learning new things and that is one reason why she enjoys FPRA and working in public relations so much. Every day she has the opportunity to learn something about communications and public relations.
Archery is one of Amy’s newest hobbies and she is learning about the sport and its history. FPRA members might not know that she loves reading about history, especially about England during the 1100-1700s. She is also quite the theater expert, with an undergraduate degree in theater performance and master’s degrees in theater and arts administration.
Amy loves living in Gainesville and enjoys the amenities of a big city with a small town feel. Originally from Cincinnati, she considers herself a “Florida Girl” after having lived in the state for 15 years.
