Devon Chestnut, APR, CPRC, gave members an insightful look into electronic communication tools during the September Monthly program on Sept. 16.

Devon is the Immediate Past State FPRA President, a former Gainesville FPRA President and the communications manager for Cox Communications.

“Electronic tools are very effective in reaching your internal audience and customers, and became very valuable during the pandemic when face-to-face communication came to a halt,” Devon said during the program. “If there’s one positive from COVID-19, it’s that the more reluctant public relations professionals began to use them.”

Devon said there are many advantages over traditional communications tools, such as cost savings, speed of delivery, deployment options and user interactivity.

The technical knowledge needed for the tools, and the possibility of hiring a professional to shoot video or make graphics, are a few disadvantages, however.

“But I’ll say this, viewers retain 95 percent of messages in video, compared to 10 percent in print,” Devon said.

A few of the electronic communications tools Devon recommends are: Visme; virtual greeting cards; Vyond; WeVideo; EmailOpen; and Yammer.
