How long have you been a member of FPRA and what are the benefits?
I have been a member of FPRA for a little over a year now.  I think that there are many benefits to being a member: being able to network and learn from senior public relations professionals, the professional development opportunities- such as the Strategic Planning Workshop that was held this past summer, and the leadership opportunities that the Chapter offers.

Please tell us a little about your job and how long you have been working there.
I recently accepted a position at Exactech, Inc. as the U.S. Sales Communication Specialist.  I just started this position on September 17—so I am still new, but I am enjoying it!  The responsibilities of this position include: coordinating communication with Exactech’s national sales force, coordinating meetings and events to support the domestic sales organization, and serving as a member of the marketing communication team.

Please share with us a challenging and/or important project you successfully completed during your career.
Before working at Exactech, I was the Communications Manager at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce for three years.  During this time I was charged with the task of redesigning the Chamber Business Journal (the Chamber’s monthly newsletter).

How did you identify your objectives and plan your project?
To begin I formed a communications committee that consisted of several Chamber members in the communications field—everything from printing to public relations to advertising.  This committee allowed me to gain insight as to how the Journal was being utilized and to determine the objective of the piece.  It served as sort of a focus group.

What was the most challenging part of the project and how did you deal with it?
The most challenging part of the project was keeping it moving and on deadline while balancing several other projects at the same time.

What advice would you give to public relations professionals when facing a similar task?
Prioritize, set deadlines (and stick to them), and accept feedback—don’t be discouraged by it.

What is your favorite restaurant in Gainesville?
I have many—Leonardo’s 706, Harvest Thyme, Dragonfly, Liquid Ginger …

Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.
I am a triathlete.  In fact, this past summer I competed in the Nautica New York City Triathlon.
