Maintaining Your APR
You worked hard to get your APR. Don’t lose it! If you earned your APR after Jan. 1, 1998, you must maintain it every three years in order to call yourself Accredited in Public Relations.
A year before you are required to file your Maintenance of Accreditation application, the UAB will send you a letter, a maintenance application and a description of the activities that count for points toward APR maintenance. You must accumulate a minimum of 10 points every three years to maintain your APR for the next three-year period. You gain points through continuing education, professionalism and public relations service. For example, attending a one-day public relations conference counts as one point. Serving for a year on the board of the Gainesville chapter of FPRA counts as two points. Giving 60 or more hours of public relations service to a local or national community organization counts as five points.
Make sure you document your public relations activities and service beyond the scope of your job. Having documentation readily available makes filling out your Maintenance of Accreditation application a snap.
